Troy Family History

From Aglish, County Waterford to Newton, Massachusetts

All information obtained in Ireland from parish records with the help of John and Ann Troy of Kilmacthomas, Ireland.

The Troy family name in Waterford was sometimes spelled De Treo or even Trehy. Our particular clan originates from the rural area of Ballinaparka, West Waterford, not far from the Cork County border, along the River Blackwater. The typical employment in Ballinaparka was at the Villiers Estate, land confiscated by the British and managed by Lord Villier. Irish women were hired for domestic work and men worked as laborers. It is assumed that the Troy family was employed here, but this is not proven.

Bridget TERRY (nee FLEMING) and her Son Walter TERRY of (Ballycullane Hse. Aglish) later bought The Friary Hse. Aglish. Walter TERRY sold Friary House to ? Peter Murray who in 1992 sold it to J. linn-Morton(Australia) originally from Northern Ireland. See pics. of Friary House on on web-site.

John Joseph Troy came to America arriving in the port of Boston on July 13th 1908 aboard the S.S. Cyrmic. John boarded the Cyrmic in Queenstown, Ireland on July 5th and made his way across the Atlantic to joing his brother and sisters. Based on the ships manifest his father Michael was living in the town of Aglish at that time, while John listed his last residence as Cappoquin. Upon arrival he made his way to 73 Highland St. West Newton to stay with his Sister, Margaret.

I wanted to say hello to the descendant's of James Troy. I recently travelled to Ireland to trace my family roots. My family and I stood at the gates of the Whitechurch Chapel overlooking the Coolahest area where my Grandfather, John Joseph was born. On returning home I attempted to contact the local Catholic Church in Arglish and stumbled onto this website. Of course to my surprise I found what I was looking for right in my own backyard.

We live the next town over from where the Troy family reunion was held in Sept. 2005.

I have contacted many of my aunts, uncles and cousins and they are excited with this discovery.

Hi Troy family

Today Auntie Barbara left us for another kind of voyage. Her life has been wonderful and full of family, love and lots of fun. We are sad beyond words but we want to remember her as the robust and fun loving woman who touched our lives and was a sister, mother and friend to everyone she met. Her struggle was long, and she's in a better place now.
